Dud

The year was 2002 and I was in desert heaven, Somewhere, Texas. It was my first year as a Grad student. My dad was gracious enough to have me live in the school’s dorm and I was shameless enough to accept.

My roommate at that time, let’s call her C, was an 18 year old girl from New York, originally from the Dominican Republic. Yes, the same place as the great Shakira![Gaby edit 1 - Shakira is from Columbia! duhh) C and I did try belly dancing once but it wasn't near good. I’m sure C is real good at it by now, the Dominican genes help. I on the other hand, well dancing is something that I enjoy doing in the privacy of my own living room with a selected one person.

Yeah, ok, I suck at it.

C had a 22 year old boyfriend, let’s call him B, who I must say was the perfect example of a perfect boyfriend. I always thought, lucky bitch!

Turns out B had been living in my dorm with C. This was illegal, the dorm apartment was meant for 2 people. C and me. I always thought that B and C hung out till late at night and B would come over the next day for breakfast. Anyway, nothing was ever said, I decided it was ok and didn’t tell a soul. I actually thought B was a decent guy, so I shut and put up. More than that I didn’t want to stand in the way of love. I believed karma kicked ass. (No coffee = writing shit like this)

C and I got along well for the most part. We shared a common wall between our bedrooms. One night I was woken up by some loud screams. Scared, I thought someone outside was being mugged or something. Soon I figured that it was C who was screaming. I went out my room and wanted to knock on her door, but soon the screaming stopped, so I went back and climbed back in to my blanket.

The next morning, C and B were having coffee/breakfast. I asked C why she was screaming the previous night? She said that it was a muscle pull and that it really hurt.

I jumped up and told her how weird I thought it was becuase I got them too! I even told her that I knew her pain.

In my head immediately I started thinking of all the home remedies my mom used when I had a muscle pull.

I sat her down and told her that she could borrow my massage oil and massage it on her leg if she wanted to.

A year later, I had graduated and moved out of my dorm. I moved in with my friends, S and M.

This one night, I woke up with a muscle pull so bad that I couldn’t help but scream.

S and M both came running into my room to check on me.

I told them that it was a muscle pull and it would go away.

The next morning they asked my how I was and told me I should fry in hell for waking them up at 2 am for a prissy muscle pull. (They’re mean ;))

I was hurt that they didn't think it was bad. Then, I remembered about C and started to tell them the entire story. About how B was a nice guy and they lived together in the dorm and how she would scream in the middle of the night because of her bad muscle pulls. I told them that they don't know how bad it hurts..they didn't know my pain, C did.blah blah. Most of which a few minutes later I thought I should not have said.

S and M looked at me for a couple of seconds blankly and then said --"Dude are you serious, what's with the oil?"

"No please tell us you didn't tell her about home remedies????"

S and M called me the biggest moron of all times. They said they couldn’t even laugh as it was so messed up and fundamentally wrong.

Only then it hit me ----turns out I slept through 7th grade biology.

Looking back, like hell I’m happy I thought it was muscle cramps.
